About Us
For more than 25 years, Union Public Schools has served the community with an adult basic education program to assist adults through GED/ HiSET Preparation classes and/or English language learning for non- native English speakers.
The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program enrolls more than 1,500 students in these classes each year.
Through partnerships with local workforce development offices and other community agencies, the Adult Learning Center embraces the opportunity to serve students not only in Tulsa, but also in our neighboring communities of Claremore, Muskogee, Owasso, and Pryor.
Partners
These partners include, but are not limited to, Community Action Project of Tulsa (CAP), Green Country Workforce, Tulsa Technology Center, Tulsa Community College, Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army, Women in Recovery, Family and Children’s Services, Rogers State University, Workforce Pryor, Muskogee Public Schools, Whirlpool Inc., TRIO, and local area churches.
Pearson Vue Testing Center
The Pearson Vue Testing Center offers various certification testing for individuals including teacher certification testing and high school equivalency (HSE) testing. During the 2019-2020 school year, nearly 500 individuals earned their HSE diploma with successful completion of the GED or HiSET exam.
Programs
GED and HiSET Preparation
Classes are provided for adults who are no longer attending high school and need basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math, and life skills.
GED and Industry Certification Exams
Passing the General Educational Development (GED) or HiSET test qualifies adults to receive a high school equivalency diploma issued by the State of Oklahoma and participate in our UALC graduation ceremony. Exams are available on paper or computer. We also offer certification exams for various fields such as IT, health, and education through our Pearson VUE testing center.
English as a Second Language
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provide instruction to non-English speaking adults. Students learn communication and assimilation skills in order to be productive citizens.
Family Literacy
Family Literacy classes offer ABE and ESL to parents along with parent/child interaction time. By learning together as a family, the program reinforces life skills that parents and children need to succeed.
Workplace Literacy
These classes are designed specifically to teach ABE or ESL to employees in order to achieve high performance work and product quality. Union’s instruction staff will identify tasks important to the employer and make those tasks the focus of basic skills.
