Meet your new team at the Union Adult Learning Center!
Dr. Amy McCready, pictured right, is the new director of Adult Education, replacing Dr. Susan Hartzler, who retired last month. Jessica McGhee moves into McCready's previous position as assistant director. Both have been working for Union's Adult Education program for some time.
Dr. Amy McCready is in her 29th year in public education and 16th with Union Public Schools. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. She received her Master’s in Education with an emphasis in Sports Management from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS and her Administrative Certification from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. McCready completed her Ed.D. at Oklahoma State University in Tulsa in 2020.
While at Union, McCready has served as Director of Union’s spirit programs, Assistant Principal at the Intermediate High School, Assistant Principal at the Alternative School and Principal of the ASPIRE Program. She is currently serving as the Director of Adult and Community Education. Before coming to Union, McCready was at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, for 13 years, where she taught math and was an Assistant Principal. She was recognized as a Teacher of the Month, TeenInk Honorable Mention Educator of the Year, and a Top Dawg in Teaching.
McCready’s interests include spending time with her husband, Matt, who is Union’s Director of Fine Arts, and with friends and family. She also enjoys playing trumpet and piano, supporting the Jayhawks and traveling.
Jessica McGhee was named assistant director of the Union Adult Learning Center this summer.
McGhee is in her 14th year in public education at Union Public Schools. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Painting from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She received her Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administrative Certification from Oklahoma State University in Tulsa, OK in 2012.
While at Union, McGhee has served as a visual art instructor, activity specialist and academic specialist for the Carrera Program, as well as guidance specialist for the Adult Education program. Interests include spending time with her husband and children, traveling to various art museums, and creating 2-D artwork.
