Union Adult Learning Center, operated by Union Public Schools, is a regional program based in Tulsa and grant-funded by Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, Lifelong Learning Section. Union Adult Learning Center provides high school equivalency (HSE) test preparation classes throughout northeast Oklahoma.
Class schedules are determined each year based on the interest of prospective learners. All classes offer enrollment in August and January. If a student misses the August or January enrollment, they can add their name to our waitlist to be placed as seats are available. Classes are offered free of charge; however, the GED and HiSET tests are offered with a fee set by Pearson VUE Testing Services and HiSET/ETS Testing Services.
Classes are offered in person and virtually. To be eligible for virtual classes, students must score high enough on their TABE pretest, as well as have the appropriate equipment and services to participate in class. This includes a tablet or computer access and internet service. Computers are NOT provided to virtual students. Students must attend 12 hours of class time via Zoom before they can begin studying independently.
Enrollment for the spring semester is currently closed.
Enrollment is by appointment only. At the enrollment appointment, students must fill out an enrollment form and complete the TABE test. All interested students will be served regardless of their score on the pretest. Students will be given another version of the TABE test after they receive 40 hours of instruction. This will help to measure their educational skills gains. It also informs teachers on the student’s readiness for the actual GED or HiSET tests. This is also a requirement to fulfill our grant funding.
Virtual classes will ONLY be offered to students who test at the appropriate level AND have their own technology. You may request virtual on your enrollment form, but you still must score high enough on the TABE test to be assigned to a virtual class. Virtual classes are not available for our students under 18 years of age.
Spring classes will meet the week of January 18 and run through May 19.
Students under the age of 18
The minimum age to attend classes with UALC is 16 years old. Students who wish to enroll and are 16 or 17 years old MUST have a signed and notarized 16/17 form on file in our offices BEFORE the student will be allowed to participate in enrollment. It must include the student information, parent or guardian consent, AND a signature from the administration at the school where the student has attended most recently.
Students who are 16 or 17 years old are required to attend in person instruction.
